Originally created in the first half of the seventeenth century by the Italian master Bartolomeo Manfredi and subsequently translated into an engraving by Jean Haussard, this work quietly reflects the worldly hedonism and boisterous everyday life of a tavern gathering in Rome, captured through meticulous tonal contrasts and lines.

Based on the original painting formerly housed in the Cabinet du Roy of the French monarch, this print follows the historical records inscribed at the bottom, while the actual original oil on canvas measures 3 pieds in height and 5 pieds 10 pouces in width.

In the immediate foreground, multiple figures gathered around a table filling wine cups, playing instruments, and reveling are depicted, vividly exposing the vibrant customs of contemporary lower-class society seized by pleasure and dissipation through the detailed linework characteristic of engraving.
