이 작품은 네덜란드의 후기 인상주의 거장 빈센트 반 고흐(Vincent van Gogh)가 1884년 3월 네덜란드 노이넨(Nuenen) 시기에 제작한 드로잉 및 수채화 작품입니다. 공식 소장품 등록번호는 F1234(전작 도록 기준)이며, 종이 위에 흑색 분필, 펜과 갈색 잉크, 워시 등으로 그려진 실제 실측 규격은 39.5 x 57.5 cm입니다. 현재 이 작품은 네덜란드 암스테르담에 위치한 반 고흐 미술관에 공식적으로 소장되어 있습니다.

# Avenue of Pollard Willows near Nuenen

Executed in March 1884 during his period in Nuenen, the Netherlands, this drawing and watercolor work is a compelling creation by the Dutch Post-Impressionist master Vincent van Gogh. Officially cataloged under inventory number F1234 and measuring 39.5 x 57.5 cm, the work is rendered in black chalk, pen and brown ink, and wash on paper. Currently, this masterpiece is housed in the permanent collection of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.  

## The Artist's Turmoil and Creative Background

During his time in Nuenen, Van Gogh immersed himself in depicting the harsh rural landscapes and the arduous lives of local peasants, seeking to capture the raw, unadorned truth of the Dutch countryside. In his letters to his brother Theo, he frequently reflected on the solemn, haunting beauty of the pollard willows that lined the village paths, finding in their pruned and gnarled forms a powerful visual metaphor for endurance and struggle.  
The foreground features a peasant heavily engaged in sweeping the path with a broom, accompanied by another figure in a blue jacket walking away down the road. In the middle ground, towering rows of pollard willows with pruned, skeletal branches stand sentinel on either side, establishing a dramatic perspective that pulls the viewer into the scene.  
The background recedes into a hazy, pale atmosphere where distant farmhouses and the horizon blur softly, evoking the crisp, desolate chill of early spring.
